You can come along to Sweden, the land of moose and endless forests. In the middle of winter, we trek through beautiful areas. White. Everywhere you look, you see snow. Sweden is known for its endless forests. Chances are cave that you will trek through one of these forests.
Abisko is located in the North. This is the starting point for one of Sweden’s most famous treks. The Kungsleden. In other words, the king’s path. This trek goes from Abisko to the South. We pass by the Lapports. A beautiful mountain formation formed by glaciers in the ice age. This is also the area of Sweden’s highest mountain: Kebnekaise. South of Kebnekaise, you soon enter true wilderness. Sarek. In this expanse you can still wander and get lost. The journey to Sarek from Utrecht easily takes two full days.
Far above the Arctic Circle, you have the greatest chance of seeing the Northern Lights. The Aurora Borealis. This natural phenomenon is there year-round. But in winter, conditions are ideal for the Northern Lights. How so? It should be dark enough. If there is a lot of light, you can’t see the Northern Lights. Just like with us the stars during the day. Furthermore, it must be cloudless.
What exactly is the Northern Lights? The Northern Lights occur high in the atmosphere, above the clouds. Due to solar activity, electrons come to Earth. At the pole’s magnetic field, these particles are drawn toward the earth. This causes the Northern Lights. A unique light phenomenon that you must have seen once.

Sweden is full of huge lakes. Scattered across the country are thousands of lakes. It is on these remnants of the last ice age that the alternative Elfstedentocht is skated. In the winter they are ltime frozen and then we use them for transportation. They are like a highway through the landscape for us. Wonderful to blaze your own trail through the pristine white snow.
There is a good chance of seeing wildlife during our tours. The forests are the domain of moose. Their traces are sure to be encountered. But whether the moose also shows itself is always open to question. Furthermore, there are reindeer all around us. Large herds wander through Swedish Lapland.
Other animals we sometimes see are the Arctic fox or the ripan. The latter is also known as the Alpine Ptarmigan and is the symbol of Kiruna. The largest city in the area. And also the largest municipality in Sweden.
