MEET FUN ADVENTURERS IN THE SNOW

Ingredients:
Winter expedition, Sled dog tour, Ice hotel, Northern Lights

Together with others, you slowly glide through the white landscape.
Behind you, the stress, the hustle and bustle, and the daily grind.
Ahead of you, adventure, peace, and freedom.
A dream come true. Alone, yet together.
Here, you are fully in the here and now.
The only one you will encounter is yourself.

Your pulk glides softly and quickly through the white landscape.
In front of you, sixteen paws trot through the snow.
Each on their own, yet together as a team.
Being single creates the bond.
It is not about dating but about daring and doing.

In the evening, you set up the tent together with the team.
Satisfied, you look back on a challenging day in nature.
The sun slowly sets on the horizon.
This is what you have been waiting for.
Time to head out.
Hunting for the Northern Lights.

First, you head into the area on skis.
Just like a real expedition, you only bring what you need.
Your tent, your sleeping bag, and your food are in your pulk.
During the day, we move quietly through the white snow.
In the evening, we pitch the tent and you look up by the campfire.
Your eyes search for the Northern Lights.

On the fourth day, we arrive at the Icehotel.
You enter a beautiful hotel with artistic rooms.
Outside, the huskies are waiting for you.
Not long after, sixteen paws trot out in front of your pulk.
For three days, you drive your own dog sled through this pristine arctic landscape.
The cold cuts across your cheeks.
How heartwarming this cold is today.

A journey out of thousands. Indescribable.
The overwhelming environment, the peace, and the connection.
Traveling alone, yet so much connection.
A week offline also provides more connection. With each other and yourself.
You come home with stories beyond comprehension.

An incredibly beautiful trip; these are moments that stay with you, and even though it’s tough at times, you get so much more in return.

It’s been a while now, but think back to it regularly…what a trip!

Next year I will be there again! Henk-Jan top how you are doing everything!

During the Singles Arctic Expedition “Arctic Grand Slam” you will experience the best of the Arctic.

Just cross the following off your bucket list:

  • Winter Expedition
  • Sled dog tour
  • Seeing ice hotel
  • Seeing Northern Lights
  • Crossing the Arctic Circle

We are going with 7 singles, singles, for a week into the winter nature of northern Sweden. Here you will be introduced to winter expeditions and sled dog tours. We are going to Jukkasjärvi in Sweden. In the middle of Swedish Lapland. Far above the Arctic Circle and ravaged by midwinter nights and blessed with the Northern Lights.

When we are there, the sun sets at four in the afternoon. And doesn’t get up again until eight in the morning. Time enough to hunt for the Northern Lights. There are no guarantees on seeing the Northern Lights. We are there in ideal conditions, though. Above the Arctic Circle and in winter after dark.

Led by Henk-Jan Geel, we head out into the wintry landscape. Completely expedition style.

Arctic Adventure arranges the complete winter expedition equipment for you. Skis, sleeping bags, tent. Together with the team we are going to enjoy and perhaps suffer for 6 days and 5 nights in the winter cold of Sweden. An experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Guaranteed.

The first night we sleep in a comfortable cabin.
Three nights we sleep in an expedition tent.
Two nights we sleep in a wilderness cabin.
The last night we sleep in a hotel in Kiruna.

The trip will take place when a minimum of 5 people register. With the participation of more than 7 participants, the tour is completely full. And full is also here … full.

Program format ‘Arctic Grand Slam for Singles’ in Sweden.

All the highlights of Swedish Lapland in one trip.

Day 1

We meet in Kiruna, Sweden. Or at the airport in the Netherlands when we fly together. You arrange the flight yourself. In Kiruna, the taxi bus takes us to our mountain lodge in Kirunavaarra. Far in the north of Sweden.

Day 2

We get acquainted with the equipment for our trip on skis. Around noon, we strap on our skis and click the pulk on behind us. Into nature. At night we sleep in a tent and prepare our own food. We have ample time for good conversation and reflection. Sleeping in the expedition sleeping bag. Delicious.

Day 3 & 4

Far from civilization, we continue into the forests, crossing the lakes. A wonderful experience. Cold, enjoyment, loneliness and if you are lucky not even cell phone coverage…
But in the evening as always hunting. Hunting for the Northern Lights.

Day 5

In the morning we arrive at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. Here we visit. We can see the rooms, each of which has been decorated with snow and ice by an artist. Different every year.
At the Ice Hotel we meet our guide and the huskies. That afternoon we swap skis for huskies. At night we sleep in a cabin in the middle of nature.

Day 6

Out all day with the huskies. What else to write about that. Wonderful. Just beautiful. We have lunch in a typical Sami tent. We sleep in a wilderness cabin again and head outside to look for the Northern Lights.

Day 7

At the end of the morning, we say goodbye to the faithful four-legged friends. We are taken to Kiruna. There, we visit the wooden church of Kiruna. An icon of northern Sweden. We eat and sleep in a hotel and continue to share stories until the wee hours….

Day 8

Transportation back to the Netherlands.

Preparation

We meet once before the trip. Live or digital. We pick the date by mutual agreement. Then we get to know each other. You’ll get an explanation of the materials and we’ll consider the map. With tea and coffee, we will discuss the trip and if possible set up the tent.

During the Trip

Tours with Arctic Adventure are Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We sleep in tents. You do this with someone else (or your partner) from the group. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. So then you can also sleep alone. On winter trips, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons.
Moving, cooking and navigating are done together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.

WhatsApp

We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.

Fitness

This ‘Expedition Experience’ is a Blue label expedition and is low-threshold in design. Still, basic fitness is necessary. Depending on the weather, it could be a spirited ride.

You don’t have to run a marathon. But assume you should be able to run 10 kilometers with a 10-kilogram backpack at a normal pace, 10 days in a row.
10 kilometers of continuous running is also good. Do you have any questions about this? If so, please contact the guide.
During the trek, there is mainly physical stress on the knees and lower back.

Sports Medical Examination

Are you over 60 and want to participate in this tour? If so, we highly recommend you get a sports medical examination. Read more about the possibilities here.

Safety

During the trip we are in uninhabited territory. In case of emergency, our position can always be reached by rescue services via snowmobile.
The guide carries communication devices and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and WGA I (Wilderness Guide Association).

Packing List

After your registration (or upon request) you’ll receive a detailed packing list.

Cross-Country Skiing

Do you want to read more (everything) about cross-country skiing? Because that’s what we’ll be doing during this expedition. Then read it on the site of toerlanglauftochten.nl.
