Explanation of the Fjällräven Expedition Jacket Keb Eco-Shell
Below you can read the transcript of the video recorded by Henk-Jan Geel about the expedition materials.
‘I’d like to tell you a bit about the coat I wear during my arctic expeditions.
This is the coat I have on right now, and this is the overcoat.
I have several layers on when I run and this is the outer layer below this I still have depending on the weather and depending on how cold it is a shirt another sweater a fleece jacket and finally this jacket.
Some features of this jacket: what you’ll notice here is I’ve put a fur collar around here.
That fur collar I sewed in myself and the advantage of a fur collar is that when it’s windy the fur collar breaks the wind in front of your face so then the wind doesn’t blow too hard in your face and there’s a metal yes a metal strip is there in the fur collar so I can shape it all the way to my head, so in the end I have a kind of tunnel in front of my face which is just a little bit warmer at least a little bit less exposure to the wind than without a fur collar.
Well furthermore, from this jacket I extended the main zipper, the front zipper, with a piece of string which also makes it easier to grip with my glove.
And what I also like about this jacket is that the zippers that are there, they have extra extensions and the pockets are not at hip level because that’s where you have your drawstring, but they’re really at chest level so when I put stuff in my pockets, they’re at chest level.
Well further the jacket itself this is a non lined jacket there is no lining in it just like in my pants which is not lined the jacket is not lined either.
The jacket is there purely to keep the heat that I build up inside to hold that in the fleece or in my undershirt and to keep the wind that comes from outside to stop that so this is a gore-tex or a dermizax or some other kind of stuff, but it’s a non lined jacket Well there are vents here on the side you can go all the way through those are under the arm, I like that because on hot days you can open the zipper in the front the zipper you can open under your arm, this allows you maximum ventilation without having to take your whole jacket off at once.
So that briefly about this jacket and what I personally like even more is that there is a in this case in the outside pocket there is a small pocket where I can put my cell phone or an mp3 player and then from there I can possibly put headphones in my ear and listen to music this is the jacket not a lot of modernities but mainly functionalities.’
