Waking up in a magical world.

Just imagine waking up to a dazzling light in a hushed world; it is the sun reflecting beautifully on the fresh snow and ice-covered twigs. Amazed, I walk around, enjoying so much splendor and tranquility.

Just as the dogs prepare for a new day, we do so with a short gathering in the snow. However at that moment the dogs raise a wolf’s song, making stillness briefly out of the question. What then follows is magical: one of the participants holds out her hands signaling to make a closed circle, then shortly thereafter the dogs fall completely silent.

A journey straight through nature, away from your familiar world full of comfort, provides numerous beautiful and enchanting moments. It brings you back to yourself where all that matters is making sure you stay warm. Moving in this endless white world proved beneficial and made me rediscover my own energy. As exciting as I found this challenge: it has given me wings. It worked out and it gives me a lot of confidence to make other new choices.

And all thanks to very expert guidance. And all in a relaxed atmosphere, it couldn’t have been better!

Feb 2022, after a long preparation (extra year) finally to the far north. What a fantastic trip, Arctic Adventure delivers an all-in expedition. Do you like a little challenge? Do you want to get to know yourself? Can you still learn something regarding winter camping? If your answer is yes, Henk-Jan will take you into a fairytale world where you and the team can enjoy and relax to the fullest during a wonderful challenge.

Last February I went with Henk-Jan Geel of Arctic Adventure, on an “expedition experience” in Lapland, Sweden, and this in “expedition style. I have some experience with outdoor / survival / bushcraft, but this was a totally new experience.

A fantastically organized trip of 69km of back-country skiing, with a sled behind me with all my luggage and 89 insane kilometers on the dog sled.

It was grueling, my limits were pushed, my endurance was put to the test, but under the enthusiastic guidance of Henk-Jan it became an experience I will never forget.

Breathtaking nature, endless snow landscapes, frozen lakes that had to be crossed, overnight stays in tents at -20 degrees, crystal clear starry skies with an arctic moon and the fairytale northern lights, encounters with moose and reindeer, huskies that stole my heart, running out of a sauna at -30 and looking at the starry sky on my back in the snow on a frozen lake, and an amazing team with other participants on this trip

Words fail to describe this experience. It changed me as a person, gave me positive energy to get back to it full force at home. Thank you Henk-Jan, thank you teammates, for this unimaginable experience.

Looking for something new? Want to see where your limit is, and want to go further? Want to experience the overwhelming ruggedness of the Arctic in a way you haven’t experienced before? Don’t feel like touring and bus trips with a well-behaved tour group, but want to go farther with your team? Then you need look no further.

Contact Henk-Jan Geel of Arctic Adventure. You won’t regret it!

Great to discover that you can do much more than you think. This expedition began with 3 days of canoeing. Funny how the world looks from the water. The area consists of several small lakes and a large lake. So sometimes the canoe had to be moved across the land. What seems impossible at first, we eventually fizzle out.

Every night we looked for a spot on a desert island. That is possible and allowed in Sweden. A campfire and enjoying the sunset completed the day. Then 3 days with the backpack. Food AND tent on the back. Fortunately, that backpack got a little lighter every day. Hiking through beautiful forest and occasional views of one of the lakes. Nice to see the landscape from a different angle now.

We concluded the expedition culturally with the Midsommar feast and a visit to Runen Stones. Thanks Arctic Adventure for this cool trip. Everything was fine. From beautiful spacious tents to great food. The tour guide was also top-notch! I felt in trusted hands every time. Sometimes I was physically challenged quite a bit. But that very thing ultimately made me feel proud and fulfilled.

In short, if you are looking for peace and quiet and want to be challenged at the same time, join an Arctic Adventure expedition.

I recently joined a winter expedition with Arctic Adventure for the 2nd time and both times were unforgettable experiences. How cool is it to sleep in the middle of a white snowy forest with the Northern Lights above you! I can recommend it to anyone to experience such an expedition.

This weekend we had a wonderful map-reading-and-using-your-compass-workshop with Henk-Jan Geel from Arctic Adventures. The enthusiasm of Henk-Jan made us forget all about the weather and we had a wonderful day in the outdoors of Amelisweerd.

Simone van SchijndelMap & Compass workshop

I went to Southern Sweden with Arctic Adventure Expeditions for a camping, Canoeing and hiking adventure. I welcome this experience which was outside my comfort zone and has given me confidence that I can handle camping and walking with a heavy backpack with all your gear just fine.

In February 2022, I got to be part of the Grand Slam expedition in northern Sweden.
A special week with variety in the program. Cross-country skiing through a magical winter landscape and spending the night in a tent at -25 and 3 full days on the trail with your own sled with dogs. With Henk-Jan as Tourguide and a guide he really is too, with a lot of experience make sure we can manage independently in a very pleasant way. An unforgettable week where you break through boundaries and I did turn my fear of dogs into love for dogs. As the Sami say “hit by nature”

After a nice but hard to navigate trip in the Pyrenees, we decided we would be helped with a map and compass navigation class. We attended with a group of four with varying levels of experience varying between daywalks and two week self-supported trips in the mountains.
Henk-Jan put together an accessible and thoughtful course. He took personal experience and interests into account. There was a nice structure of theory and excersise with a focus on practical applicability.
All of us were very happy with our progress. Henk-Jan’s light touch and broad experience where a joy. Highly recommended!
Expedition Log, Feb. 28: Our expedition in arctic Sweden is over. We survived: slogging through snow and cold for days with 8 adventurous geeks and loving it all. Tuesday was the coldest night at -28ºC, but with a few burners we were able to heat up the tipi to -10ºC to -5ºC during dinner. This was already getting almost comfortable in our super-thick down coats.

The most fun? With the other expedition members together helping each other through it, with encouragement, with brute force, with a little push of your sled, with candid confessions, with sharing your food or belongings, with hugs, with a listening ear, but above all: with an awful lot of humor.
The most annoying thing? Being called awake at 6:30 a.m. in a temperature of minus heul and instant having to start the quest to put on in the most efficient order all the items roaming somewhere through your sleeping bag and then already being stranded at part one because you can’t find your left liner sock.
Arctic Adventure Expeditions knows how to make it a real expedition experience, from the preparation meeting, through the refueling packages to the trek itself. The guide (we had Karin) has safety as a top priority on her list, but manages to combine that with flexibility (e.g. in the itinerary and overnight stays) and attention to everyone personally.

See more? Here are two videos of our expedition: https://youtu.be/69uVRELTnUY (days 1 to 5) and https://youtu.be/mZ-YOgck8w0 (day 6). Ennuh, it’s not every expedition this cold though, we were just lucky. 1f609 Experiences
What a great Map & Compass workshop we attended yesterday!
Henk-Jan and his helper Willem enthusiastically taught us the principles. Highly recommended!!!

Obviously the goal: the volcano the Fagradalsfjall. The trek completely self-supported there. Via a road through and over solidified lava fields. The group dynamic initiated by Henk-Jan, the organizer was very inspiring. After each ( rainy) day’s walk, Henk-Jan immediately had a hot cup of soup or broth ready. Then a main meal. Super. In the morning, coffee or tea and a hearty granola-like breakfast. Really: all inclusive. This is comfort “out of your comfort zone.” Just do it, experience and enjoy, even afterward for sure.

Simon from the RiverThe Floor is Lava, Iceland

“The floor is lava,” a challenging, adventurous, crazy and groundbreaking experience. For a week, lugging packs through the lava field led by Henk-Jan. Wow, how wonderful to see the working crater spouting and the lava sliding down the mountain. The tour is organized and guided from A to Z in a very professional manner. Henk-Jan has everything down to the last detail. He has an eye and ear for each individual and the group. In addition, he is resourceful, a super cook, discusses everything with the participants, he keeps a close eye on the environment, weather, etc., and makes sure that each participant goes out each day well and confidently. Having a great adventure together. Henk-Jan is a rock and you can rely on him completely. Even if you don’t have a raincoat with you, he conjures one from his backpack1f923 Experiences. An outdoor topper! Together with Henk-Jan of Arctic Adventure you can be sure to experience a reliable, insane, adventurous, special and unforgettable vacation.

From Feb. 28. through Mar. 7. Been on the Heroes of Telemark expedition. Pfff. That’s no cakewalk. A very special experience. Cold, white landscape (in the clouds) sometimes no depth to be seen at all, wind. But a life experience you don’t want to have missed. Perseverance is the credo. Long days stomping through the snow, pitching tents, melting snow, eating, sleeping, adventure, camaraderie. This is something you want to have experienced. I found it tough but am glad I did it.
Henk-Jan Geel
is obviously the man to have for that. Concluding with a visit to the heavy water factory and reminiscing at the Rjukan hotel. How nice that is when you have given up for 6 days.

Steven van WilligenburgHeroes of Telemark, Norway

What an experience to go on expedition with Henk-Jan to Lapland.
This was a trip of a lifetime! Sleeping in a tent with minus 22 degrees. Beautiful area! And then those sled dogs! They were really mine at that moment. Feeding and grooming. The wilderness cabin…. Fantastic. And a surprise lunch in the teepee.
So many wonderful memories!!!
Compliments to Henk-Jan for the good organization. Fine social man where you feel safe in sometimes more extreme situations.
You must have done this!

Lisette van SoestArctic Grand Slam, Sweden
Did the Heroes of Telemark Memorial 2020 expedition trek with Henk-Jan.
Wonderful beautiful experience and again got to enjoy the arctic conditions in Norway.
Henk-Jan is a very capable expedition leader who knows what he is doing to me. Safety first!👍
We have now been home for almost two weeks and are still reeling from this for me amazing expedition on the vast Hardangervidda.

Super organized with very fine guides. Well cared for from start to finish. I myself have done the Arctic Grand Slam and it has a fine build-up from winter camping in a tent to spending the night in a cabin with a stove. Both cross-country skiing and sleigh rides were wonderful to do and experience. Highly recommended!

I recently went along to the beautiful Hardangervidda for the – Heroes of Telemark – trek. It was an experience I will always remember, not only because of the beautiful scenery but especially because of HJ’s expert guidance. Everything is pre-arranged. By way, you only need to bring your own self along with good fitness. HJ skillfully steers you through this adventure. Where explanations are needed, always clear, calm and patient. Even in a complete white-out, it exudes nothing but tranquility.
HJ is a guide I go out with with blind faith. Also outside the Hardangervidda.

Trip of a lifetime it certainly was.
It is so cool to brave the cold. First day you think where is the bus home. Last day think……. we are already going home.
What a great experience.

Great group who pull you all through. And then of course the tour guide is the best I have ever experienced. Knows what he’s doing, and if he doesn’t he doesn’t show it.

Daan YellowArctic Break Out, Sweden

Trekked through the Hardangervidda (Norway) with Arctic Adventure in 2022. Camping in a tent overlooking the snowy mountain plateau , crossing frozen lakes on touring langlauf skis….
The expedition is prepared in detail (routes, food, packing list). Arctic Adventure uses good equipment (skis shoes, sleeping bags, jackets, camping gear) and the Norwegian guide Geir was a source of knowledge and experience.
Are you ready for a challenging adventure below freezing? With Arctic Adventure’s professional guidance, you will experience the adventure of a lifetime.

Particularly cool map and compass course: didactically a very nice structure. Very creatively designed, where you learn the techniques step by step and practice each technique repeatedly and in a different way each time. Afterwards, you will go home with a big smile. And full of confidence to be able to make the right choices during your own journeys. Because you learn not only about map and compass, but also about route planning. Thank you Henk-Jan for this instructive and enjoyable day!

Tough but beautiful ride!
Lovely canoeing and hiking in a great environment.
Well prepared and accompanied by our guide.
The land crossings could be improved.

June 2022 – canoeing and hiking in Sweden’s lake district. Perfectly organized, so we could enjoy beautiful nature to the fullest. Accompanied by highly experienced guide and expert coach. Definitely highly recommended!

Participated in the workshop on map and compass.
Super fun and educational day, everyone got plenty of attention and explanation, and assignments to put it into practice.
If you are thinking about doing something like this, I highly recommend this workshop.

Nico van VondelenMap & Compass workshop

It was not always easy. And it was quite chilly at times. But the experienced leadership makes sure everything is a fine experience. Enjoying the athletic challenge, the sociability, the things you never do otherwise. I look back on a great expedition!

Erik WoudaArctic Break-Out, Sweden

Good organization with super fun trips.
Adventurous, sporty and challenging trips that are still suitable for a wide audience. When in doubt just do it!

Do you want to go on adventure in nature in summer or winter then Arctic Adventure is the organization, which can help you to very nice (arctic) expeditions!!!

Hidde ReinhardArctic Reset, Sweden

Last Tuesday I — Jaap – participated in a course in Map and Compass by Henk-Jan. It was a very good course, the explanations were complete and clear. Henk-Jan is a true professional, with very nice stories about the Arctic as well. He is good at conveying information and keeps it interesting the whole time. A variety of practical exercises throughout the day also ensure that the information enters properly. I got a lot out of the course. Thank you Henk-Jan!

Map and compass workshop consequence. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about navigating outside in nature. In a short time you learn a lot by especially applying under the guidance of Henk Jan. Very useful and also just really fun to be outside with nature lovers. Very well prepared and executed.

Attended the navigation workshop. Super experience! Nice, clear and detailed explanations from Henkjan. Highly recommended!

Are you always lost, even with compass? Then you should attend the Map and Compass workshop. Beautiful surroundings where this workshop will be held under the cozy, but certainly driven and excellent leadership of Henk-Jan Geel
