The 2023 Greenland Expedition: A Word of Thanks

The time has come, the very last blog about Arctic Adventure’s 2023 Greenland Expedition. In this last blog, I would like to thank some of the people who contributed to the success of this expedition. Without them, we would never have been in Greenland and had this adventure. So herewith, a big thank you to all the participants who rose to the challenge and had faith in the success of the expedition.

Behind the scenes

In addition to the participants, a number of people were working behind the scenes to make this expedition possible. A special thanks goes to Dirk van Ars, our Basecamp Manager and Meteorologist. Thanks to his accurate weather information, we knew exactly when to expect a storm and when it would end again. His contribution was invaluable. The Outdoor Medicine team also deserves special mention. They provided us with medical advice and remote assistance. Their expertise in medical background helped us tremendously during this expedition. I would also like to thank Arnaud de Wilde for his support in the preparations and his expertise in glacier crevasse rescue exercises.

Support from family and friends

A word of thanks also goes out to our family and friends. Thank you for supporting us and allowing us to embark on the adventure. Your presence, albeit at a distance, has meant a lot to us. It was nice to know that you have been reading along and listening to our experiences.

Arctic Adventure and the team of guides

Arctic Adventure is more than just Henk-Jan Geel and the Greenland Expedition. I would like to thank the entire team of guides for their dedication and professionalism. In addition to the Greenland Expedition, they have organized three other treks, and two more teams are currently on the road in northern Sweden. I have full confidence in their abilities and am glad they are part of our network.

A special thanks to my wife Ingrid

A special thanks goes to my wife Ingrid. She has kept Arctic Adventure running during my absence, in addition to her own company Northern Delight. Her support and commitment ensured that this expedition could take place. Thank you, Ingrid.

Partners and sponsors

I would also like to thank a number of partners and sponsors who supported this expedition.

Expedition as part of life

Although this is the last blog about this expedition, I do not believe that an expedition can ever be truly closed. It is an experience that will always have a place in our lives. At times when times are tough, we will think of the challenges we overcame in Greenland. At times when we are cold, we will think back to the extreme cold on the island. And at times when we are at a loss for words, we will be reminded of the perseverance we have shown during this expedition. It is an experience we will always remember and look back on with pride.

On to new adventures

Although this expedition has come to an end, this does not mean that there are no new adventures ahead. Another expedition to the Greenland ice sheet is planned for 2024. If you are interested, send an email with the subject “Greenland 2024” and I will give you more information about this opportunity after my return to the Netherlands. With these words I close this blog. Thanks for reading, following and commenting on the blog. It was an amazing adventure and I was thrilled to take you on this journey. Now it’s time to brush my teeth and go to sleep. Tomorrow we leave for Copenhagen and on Saturday we land at Schiphol Airport. Who knows, we might see each other there. Again, thank you for everything!
