The high(s) point reached
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Greenland Expedition reached the highest point in Greenland. A highlight that was celebrated with great joy. But the good news did not end there, as today, on day 19 of the expedition, they also reached the halfway point of their journey. With about 260 km to go, the end is in sight.
A successful day
The expedition members were lucky to have a windless day today. This allowed them to progress quickly and cover the distance of as much as 25 km. Despite the fatigue, meals were quickly cooked and eaten. It was a beautiful day and the same conditions are expected to prevail tomorrow and the day after.
In a straight line toward DYE 2
The next few days will be all about straight lines. The expedition should run in a straight line, on a course of 304 degrees, toward DYE 2. If this goes well, they will pass through a beautiful white landscape. Despite the challenges, the team is confident and hopeful to cover another 24-25 km tomorrow. The team therefore hopes to arrive at DYE 2 in 4 days. From there it is about 200 kilometers to point 660, the end point of the expedition. But first, it is time to rest and sleep so that tomorrow they can start the next stage fresh and energetic.
Food supply
In terms of food, they are long past the middle of the expedition. With 11 days of food left and 3 spare days, there is still 14 days of food in their sled. The sled gets lighter and lighter as gasoline is burned and food is eaten. On Day 1, the sled still weighed 25 pounds heavier than it does now, which is clearly felt while walking. The GreenLand Expedition has already achieved many highlights. With another challenging distance ahead, the team is determined and strong. The next few days will be crucial, but with the increasingly light sled and the team’s perseverance, they are on the right track. Until the next update!
