An expedition just for you!

_
Ingredients:
Adventure, Sled Dog Tour, Ice Hotel, Northern Lights, tough women

Your sled glides softly through the endless white landscape.
The air is clear and the fresh cold tingles on your skin.
Deep inside you feel only warmth and strength.
Before you stretches the horizon, a world of snow and silence.
You play the leading role in this. Here you are free of everything.
The daily grind? Far away.
You are on an adventure, stronger than ever.

Sixteen powerful paws trot through the snow in perfect harmony.
You feel at one with nature.
As the world around you seems to quiet down, your vision sharpens.
The fresh arctic breeze, the rhythmic sound of the dogs, and unspoiled nature embrace you.
All that matters is the here and now. This is your moment.

In the evening, after a day full of adventure, you set up camp together under a sky full of stars.
The sky turns a deep purple as the sun slowly fades away.
There is a deep peace around you, and the connection with your team is palpable.
This is not just a trip, this is an experience that touches you.
Together you will prepare for the magic of the night: the hunt for the Northern Lights.

This is Lapland as you have never experienced it before.

This was the 2nd time I joined an Arctic Adventure with Henk-Jan Geel. It was another incredibly beautiful adventure. I will cherish this experience forever, and no one can take it away from me. It was TOP-NOTCH!!!

The right places at the right time, good equipment, completely taken care of from start to finish, he knows how to find the most beautiful spots, caring for every participant, an environment that makes you quiet, it was super well organized!!!

Last February was along on an expedition. In the months leading up to the expedition, I was in regular contact about clothing, equipment and food. The guide is very knowledgeable and gives you complete confidence. I appreciated this immensely.

With all the gear from Holland, we set out. I did not feel unsafe at any time. The guide is a very driven and enthusiastic and knows what he is doing. She involves and informs everyone, often with a nice smile and humor. In addition, she knows how to empower and enthuse everyone.

GO ON AN ADVENTURE WITH KARIN

Gids van Arctic Adventure 5 WOMEN ONLY EXPEDITION
Guide & Nature Coach

Karin is a triathlon trainer and climbing instructor. She has done winter expeditions in Sarek and Kiruna. And she trains women to better sports performance.
With Karin, you have one lump of inspiration and motivation in the tent.

Fitness
Difficulty Level
Adventure
Nature
Culture
Comfort

First you go into the area on skis.
As in a real expedition, you carry only what you really need.
Your tent and sleeping bag. Food is in your sled.
During the day we move quietly through the snow.
In the evening we pitch the tent. At the campfire look up.
Your eyes search for the Northern Lights.

On the fourth day, we arrive at the Ice Hotel.
You enter a beautiful hotel with artsy rooms.
Outside, huskies are waiting for you.
Not long after, sixteen paws trot out in front of the sled.
For three days, you glide through this virgin polar landscape with your own dog sled.
The cold cuts along your cheeks.
How heartwarming this cold is today.

I keep saying; I would so go again next week. And it is.

I thought it was so super cool to do.
Intensely enjoy it while also taking on a rock-hard physical challenge (and of course some mental challenges).

The effect of such a week is super indescribable I want to say, but I do have words for it, so I choose: valuable.
What a wonderful gift to myself and especially what and wonderful gift to my life. Experiencing nature in such a peaceful beautiful serene way.

In February this year, I joined the Arctic Grand Slam.

I needed a complete reset. Apart from the daily craziness. That totally worked out there!

In Swedish Lapland, I sought and found my limits. Went deep and learned a lot.

During the Women Only Arctic Expedition, you will experience the best of the Arctic.

Just cross the following off your bucket list:

  • Winter Expedition
  • Sled dog tour
  • Seeing ice hotel
  • Seeing Northern Lights
  • Crossing the Arctic Circle

We are going with 7 women for a week into the winter nature of northern Sweden. Here you will be introduced to winter expeditions and sled dog tours. We are going to Jukkasjärvi in Sweden. In the middle of Swedish Lapland. Far above the Arctic Circle and ravaged by midwinter nights and blessed with the Northern Lights.

When we are there, the sun sets at four in the afternoon. And doesn’t get up again until eight in the morning. Time enough to hunt for the Northern Lights. There are no guarantees on seeing the Northern Lights. We are there in ideal conditions, though. Above the Arctic Circle and in winter after dark.

Under the guidance of a professional polar guide, we head out into the winter landscape. Completely expedition style.

Arctic Adventure arranges the complete winter expedition equipment for you. Skis, sleeping bags, tent. Together with the team we are going to enjoy and perhaps suffer for 6 days and 5 nights in the winter cold of Sweden. An experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Guaranteed.

The first night we sleep in a comfortable cabin.
We will sleep three nights in an expedition tent.
We will sleep one night in a wilderness cabin.
The last night we sleep in a hotel in Kiruna.

The trip will take place when a minimum of 5 people register. With the participation of more than 7 participants, the tour is completely full. And full is also here … full.

Program format ‘Women Only Expedition’ in Sweden.

All the highlights of Swedish Lapland in one trip.

Day 1

We meet in Kiruna, Sweden. Or at the airport in the Netherlands when we fly together. You arrange the flight yourself. In Kiruna, the taxi bus will take us to our lodge. Far in the north of Sweden.

Day 2

We get acquainted with the equipment for our trip on skis. Around noon, we strap on the skis and click the sled behind us. Into nature. At night we sleep in a tent and prepare our own food. We have ample time for good conversation and reflection. Sleep in the expedition sleeping bag. Delicious.

Day 3

Far from civilization, we continue into the forests, crossing the lakes. A wonderful experience. Cold, enjoyment, loneliness and if you are lucky not even cell phone coverage…
But in the evening as always hunting. Hunting for the Northern Lights.

Day 4

In the morning we arrive at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. Here we visit. We can see the rooms, each of which has been decorated with snow and ice by an artist. Different every year.
At the Ice Hotel we meet our guide and the huskies. That afternoon we swap skis for huskies. At night we sleep in a cabin in the middle of nature.

Day 5

Out all day with the huskies. What else to write about that. Wonderful. Just beautiful. We have lunch in a typical Sami tent. We sleep again in a wilderness cabin and we go out to look for the Northern Lights.

Day 6

At the end of the morning, we say goodbye to the faithful four-legged friends. We are taken to Kiruna. There we visit the wooden church of Kiruna. An icon of northern Sweden. We eat and sleep in a hotel and continue to share stories until the wee hours….

Day 7

Transportation back to the Netherlands.

Preparation

We meet once before the trip. Live or digital. We pick the date by mutual agreement. Then we get to know each other. You’ll get an explanation of the materials and we’ll consider the map. With tea and coffee, we will discuss the trip and if possible set up the tent.

During the Trip

Tours at Arctic Adventure are “Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We sleep in tents. You do this with someone else (or your partner) from the group. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. So then you can also sleep alone. On winter trips, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons.
Moving, cooking and navigating are done together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.

WhatsApp

We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.

Fitness

This “Expedition Experience” is a Blue label expedition and low-key in scope. Still, basic fitness is necessary. Depending on the weather, it could be a spirited ride.

You don’t have to run a marathon. But assume you should be able to run 10 kilometers with a 10-kilogram backpack at a normal pace, 10 days in a row.
\n10 kilometers of continuous running is also good. Do you have any questions about this? If so, please contact the guide.
During the trek, there is mainly physical stress on the knees and lower back.

Sports Medical Examination

Are you over 60 and want to participate in this tour? If so, we highly recommend you get a sports medical examination. Read more about the possibilities here.

Safety

During the trip we are in semi-uninhabited territory. In case of emergency, our position can always be reached by the rescue services with a snowmobile.
The guide carries communication devices and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and WGA I (Wilderness Guide Association)

Packing List

After your registration (or upon request) you’ll receive a detailed packing list.

Cross-Country Skiing

Do you want to read more (everything) about cross-country skiing? Because that’s what we’ll be doing during this expedition. Then read it on the site of toerlanglauftochten.nl.
