Arctic Happenings – A look back and forward by Henk-Jan
Newsletter from Arctic Adventure dated December 27, 2020
Clamping days. That’s what they call it in Sweden.
The days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
These are the days when I look back at eating just a little too much during Christmas.
The just overpriced and many gifts and the overflowing Christmas tree with red, gold and blue baubles.
Just because I couldn’t choose and I actually like everything.
But also the days when I look ahead to the new year.
In these five days remaining, not much will change from the previous period.
But I can look ahead and make good intentions for 2021.
What could I do better? What do I want different?
And with a full stomach, I quickly think of eating less and exercising more….
But the longer I think about it, the more it begins to dawn on me.
Maybe it’s not just clamping days.
I think we’ve been stuck all year.
And so I actually look back at a clip year.
A year in which we actually came to a standstill. Have had to wait and see.
And sometimes sat at the computer in frustration for yet another Zoom consultation.
And I’ll be the last one to say it didn’t apply to me.
I have been terribly annoyed at times.
But as I write this and look back, it is also a year of reflection.
Looking back on the much eating (Consuming) of previous years.
I will not say that the current corona situation is because of that. I am not a virologist.
But I myself did start thinking about how things could be done differently.
And then a year of downtime is actually not so bad at all.
Time enough to think.
Time enough to look ahead and make plans.
What could I do better? What do I want different?
My conclusion?
In my opinion, we need less mass, more personal. Less distant, more local. Less city, more nature.
To do that, I’m going to do 4 things
- Starting this summer, I will also be offering summer trips.
Small scale. Personal. Close by and in nature. Of course still in the Arctic.- Think gold prospecting in Finland during the“Finish Gold Rush“
- Relax in Sweden during the“Hike & Canoe trek“
- Volcanoes and hot springs in Iceland during the‘Water & Fire expedition‘

Just goes to show that a period of stagnation need not be a decline.
But you have to stand still to turn.
And that’s what I did.
I look back on an extraordinary year and look forward to a bright future.
But above all, lots of wild adventures and health.
