The end is in sight

The end of our expedition is in sight, and we can tell not only by the miles traveled, but also by the state of our materials. Today we covered a good distance, almost 28 kilometers, before we had to stop because of a rising storm. With a wind speed of 18 meters per second, it was clear that we had to take shelter for a while.

Equipment breakdown

During such a long expedition, it is not surprising that there is some wear and tear on our equipment. For example, I noticed that my long underpants were torn at the crotch and knees. We also lost a tent bag due to strong winds. Bamboo sticks and pegs fell, as did two sleeping mats. Fortunately, we had repair equipment with us, so we were able to make the necessary repairs. In addition, bindings broke off the skis and my ski pole is bent at the bottom. So this was the last expedition I could use this ski pole with. Fortunately, we had spare parts with us to repair the bindings.

Physical discomforts

In addition to material bad luck, I have also had to deal with physical discomfort. My heels have been broken since day 1 and an inflamed toe has been added to that. Fortunately, we had a comprehensive medical kit with us and were able to seek advice on how to deal with it. The inflamed toe is fortunately healing, but it was certainly no fun walking around with that for several days.

The Final Leads

Despite all the challenges, we remain motivated and go for the final touches. We still have about 125 kilometers to go before we reach our final destination. After a short rest and sitting out the storm, we will rise early again tomorrow and continue our trek. Hopefully we can reach the finish line in the coming days without further problems. Despite setbacks and broken materials, we remain positive. We know the end is in sight and that motivates us to persevere. With the necessary repairs and our determination, we will successfully complete this expedition. To be continued…
