FORCE OF NATURE LIKE YOU ONLY SEE IN ICELAND

.

Ingredients:
Volcanoes, Lava, Hot Springs, Adventure & Camping

Do you know that game? ‘The floor is lava’. That’s what we’re going to do. But then in real life.
This tour is all about volcanoes and specifically the Fagradalsfjall Volcano.
Or, the volcano that has been erupting from time to time in recent years.

What are we going to do?
On the first day we will fly from Schiphol Airport to Keflavik Airport in Iceland.
Here we will have dinner and go over the rest of the week.
The next day there is time to explore Reykjavik and we will visit the Icelandic National Museum.
A wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Iceland.
A good start to a week of impressions and experiences.

We eat lunch at a traditional Icelandic lunch restaurant. Think salmon, rye bread, and Skyr.
In the afternoon, feel free to walk around Reykjavik.
We’ll check into our hotel in the city center, and during dinner, we’ll go over the final details for the upcoming trip.

The next day, a taxi will be ready for us in the morning to take us to the starting point of our trek.
Gear up and head south.

For 6 days, we walk alternately through lava fields. Over volcanic landscape and across the great divide that separates Europe and America.
We occasionally come across a stream or lake to replenish our water supply. And sometimes there is this red glow in the sky in front of us. That is our goal. The Fagradalsfjall volcano. This volcano has a good grip on the region. Unpredictable as he is, he bursts out every now and then.

For the last three days, we have to bring water. We won’t encounter water sources then.
So think about this when packing your backpack. The lighter the better….

On day 7 , the time is right. After packing up our tent early in the morning, we head into the Fagradalsfjall valley.
We won’t be the only ones walking here now. Iceland’s premier attraction has come to life here. More impressive than the supporters of the Icelandic soccer team, more exuberant than the singer Björk. We are face to face with a real volcano in its full glory.
We take all day to enjoy this spectacle.
This volcano came to life in 2021 and in 2022. The traces of the recent eruption are clearly visible in the jet-black lava field.

The penultimate day we settle down. Because the last kilometers of our trip lead ns to the Blue Lagoon.
A natural hotspring where we indulge in the thermal bath. We did earn it.

In the afternoon a cab will be waiting for us here to take us to Keflavik.
The last night you can recover in a real bed and we eat our last meal together in a good Icelandic restaurant.

On the last day, a cab will take you to the airport or to Reykjavik in the morning. This is where our paths separate.

Writing this down already makes me hot.
This really seems like a super trip. At least as impressive as the trek in winter.

Day 3

On Tuesday, a cab will be waiting for us in the morning to take us to the starting point of our trek.
Hanging up and heading south.

Day 4-6

During 5 days we walk alternately through lava fields. About volcanic landscape and about the great divide that separates Europe and America. We encounter the occasional stream or lake to replenish our water supply. And always there is that red glow in the sky in front of us. That is our goal. The Fagradalsfjall volcano. This one gives the whole region a red glow at night from the boiling lava.
The last three days we have to bring water. We will no longer encounter water sources. So think about this when packing your backpack. The lighter the better….

Day 7

On Saturday. After packing up our tent early in the morning, we headed into the Fagradalsfjall valley. We won’t be the only ones walking here now. Iceland’s premier attraction has come to life here. More impressive than the supporters of the Icelandic soccer team, more exuberant than the singer Björk. We are face to face with a real volcano in its full glory.
We take all day to enjoy this spectacle. This volcano erupted in 2021 and in 2022. Chances are that the volcano is now no longer active. It is still nature that dictates.

Day 8

Sunday we come to rest. Because the last kilometers of our trip lead ns to the Blue Lagoon. A natural hotspring where we indulge in the thermal bath. We have earned it.
In the afternoon, a cab is waiting for us here to take us to Keflavik. The last night you can recover in a real bed and we eat our last meal together in a good Icelandic restaurant.

Day 9

Preparation

We meet once before the trip. Live or digital. We pick the date by mutual agreement. Then we get to know each other. You’ll get an explanation of the materials and we’ll consider the map.

Equipment rental?

You can specify which equipment you would like to rent from us when you register. Tent, sleeping bag, mat, hiking poles or tent.
You can pick up these materials one week before the trip. This allows you to pack your backpack well before the trip.

This package includes:

✔ Backpack by Lowe Alpine
✔ Sleeping bag by RAB
✔ Sleeping pad by Therm-a-Rest
✔ Tent (2 or 1 person)
✔ Pair of hiking poles

The cost of this complete package is only €149 for the entire trip.

During the Trip

Tours at Arctic Adventure are “Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We often sleep in tents. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. On winter treks, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons. Arctic Adventure regfelt the winter tents.
Moving, cooking and navigating we do together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.

WhatsApp

We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.

Fitness

You need a good level of fitness for this hike. It’s nice if you can hike with a backpack on. Think about 20 kilometers a day with a backpack of over 20 pounds.

Sports Medical Examination

Are you over 60 and want to participate in this tour? If so, we highly recommend you get a sports medical examination. Read more about the possibilities here.

Safety

During the trip we find ourselves in uninhabited territory a lot. In case of an emergency, our position can always (but sometimes difficult) be reached by the rescue services.
The guide carries satellite communications equipment and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and guide training with the Wilderness Guide Association (WGA).
There is a Basecamp in the Netherlands that can be contacted for those left behind.
