Day 1 – Saturday
We meet in Kiruna, Sweden. Arrival connects with the Eurowings flight from Düsseldorf. The husky kennel owner and our Arctic Adventure guide will be there to meet us. We’ll spend the first night in the Musher’s Lodge at the kennel. A warm place to land and adjust quietly.
Day 2 – Sunday
After breakfast, we’ll receive instructions about the huskies and the sled. Then we’ll head into nature with the dogs. Through forests and across frozen lakes. We’ll have lunch outdoors, by the fire. Later in the day, we’ll arrive at a wilderness cabin. Here we’ll light the stove ourselves, chop wood, and feed the dogs. The sauna will be ready. It’s simple, but that’s all we need. With a bit of luck, we’ll see the Northern Lights in the evening.
Day 3 – Monday
In the morning, we’ll return to the kennel with the huskies. A final journey through the silent forests. After lunch at the kennel, we’ll switch activities. We’ll pair up on snowmobiles and head further into nature. Fast, powerful, a different way to experience this landscape. In the evening, we’ll return to the Musher’s Lodge for the night.
Day 4 & 5 – Tuesday and Wednesday
We’ll put on our skis and load the pulks. We’ll spend two days trekking expedition-style through the landscape. We’ll carry everything we need with us. We’ll camp in special expedition tents. During the day, we’ll glide through forests, lakes, and hills. In the evenings, we’ll cook and stoke the fire. Nature’s rhythm will determine our day.
Day 6 – Thursday
We’ll continue skiing towards Jukkasjärvi. Here we’ll visit the Sami Museum, where we’ll learn more about the culture and traditions of the indigenous people. At the end of the day, a taxi will take us back to Kiruna. We’ll spend the night in a hostel in the city.
Day 7 – Friday
The morning is free to spend as you wish. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Kiruna iron mine, Europe’s largest production iron mine. Impressive and unimaginably vast. We’ll end the day back at our hostel.
Day 8 – Saturday
After breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport or train station. The journey connects with the direct Eurowings flight back to Düsseldorf. You’ll return home tired but richer in stories.

We meet once before the trip. Live or digital. We pick the date by mutual agreement. Then we get to know each other. You’ll get an explanation of the materials and we’ll consider the map. With tea and coffee, we will discuss the trip and if possible set up the tent.
Tours with Arctic Adventure are Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We sleep in tents. You do this with someone else (or your partner) from the group. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. So then you can also sleep alone. On winter trips, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons.
Moving, cooking and navigating are done together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.
We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.
This ‘Expedition Experience’ is a Blue label expedition and is low-threshold in design. Still, basic fitness is necessary. Depending on the weather, it could be a spirited ride.
You don’t have to run a marathon. But assume you should be able to run 10 kilometers with a 10-kilogram backpack at a normal pace, 10 days in a row.
10 kilometers of continuous running is also good. Do you have any questions about this? If so, please contact the guide.
During the trek, there is mainly physical stress on the knees and lower back.
Are you older than 55 and want to participate in this trip? Then we strongly advise you to have a sports medical examination performed. Read more about the possibilities here.
During the trip we are in uninhabited territory. In case of emergency, our position can always be reached by rescue services via snowmobile.
The guide carries communication devices and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and WGA I (Wilderness Guide Association).
You get to borrow the full winter expedition equipment. Skis, backcountry ski boots, sleeping bags, sled. By arrangement, you are free to bring your own gear. Provided it meets our requirements.
We also provide group materials. Cooking utensils, tents, navigation and communication equipment.
After your registration (or upon request) you’ll receive a detailed packing list.
Do you want to read more (everything) about cross-country skiing? Because that’s what we’ll be doing during this expedition. Then read it on the site of toerlanglauftochten.nl.
