Day 1: Departure from the Netherlands
Gather early at Schiphol Airport. From here, the SAS flight departs via Oslo to Bodø in northern Norway. You arrange this flight yourself. Or we meet in Bodø at the airport at 16:00. By bus we continue to the village of Fauske. Here we spend the first night in a hotel. This is also an excellent opportunity to check the backpack contents and materials one last time.
Day 2-3: Start of the Expedition
We begin our trek at daybreak. The first few kilometers are still by bus. But when we got out, the mountain range separating Sweden from Norway lay before us. We use the first two days to traverse the Norwegian landscape and adjust to our backpacks and the rugged terrain.
Day 4-5: Border crossing Norway-Sweden
We reach the Norwegian-Swedish border and begin to make our way through the vast, wild terrain of Sarek. We sleep in tents and cook on our own food.
Day 6: Europe’s Most Remote Point
A highlight of our trip. We reach the most remote point in Europe, a place far away from civilization. Around here, we spend the night and enjoy the unprecedented silence and tranquility.
Day 7-8: Deeper into Sarek
We go deeper into Sarek, navigating through valleys and over mountain passes. These days will be tough, but the pristine nature and breathtaking views are worth it.
Day 9-10: Return to Civilization
We begin our journey back to civilization, but still remain deep in the wilderness. We trek through forests and along rivers, always alert to the flora and fauna around us. Elk and reindeer are present and who knows, we might see them.
Day 11-12: Arrival in Kvikkjokk
We end our trip in the Sami village of Kvikkjokk. Here we sleep the last night in the tent. It is a short night because the only bus of the day leaves as early as 05:20. Oh boy…
In the morning we arrive in Lulea where we check into a hotel in the afternoon to enjoy a well-deserved rest. We have time to share experiences, look at photos and enjoy a final evening and dinner together.
Day 13: Return to the Netherlands
We take the train or plane back to the Netherlands, tired but fulfilled, full of new experiences and memories we will never forget.
Note: This is a flexible itinerary and may be modified depending on weather conditions and the physical condition of the group.

Tours at Arctic Adventure are “Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We often sleep in tents. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. On winter treks, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons. Arctic Adventure regfelt the winter tents.
Moving, cooking and navigating we do together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.
We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.
You need a good level of fitness for this hike. It’s nice if you can hike with a backpack on. Think about 20 kilometers a day with a backpack of over 20 pounds.
Are you over 60 and want to participate in this tour? If so, we highly recommend you get a sports medical examination. Read more about the possibilities here.
During the trip we find ourselves in uninhabited territory a lot. In case of an emergency, our position can always (but sometimes difficult) be reached by the rescue services.
The guide carries satellite communications equipment and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and guide training with the Wilderness Guide Association (WGA).
There is a Basecamp in the Netherlands that can be contacted for those left behind.
