This 9-day sea kayak and backpacking trek takes you from Härnösand to Örnsköldsvik.
Over, along and through the highest coastline in the world.
With impressive 286 meters above sea level formed by the ice age, this adventure offers a unique combination of land and water with unparalleled views.

Spicy sea kayaking and backpacking trek through a Unesco World Heritage Site
Day 1: Departure from the Netherlands
You will travel on your own to the starting point of this tour. We will meet at Härnösand train station at 16:45. After arriving in Härnösand, we will be taken by cab to our starting point, where we will spend the night in typical Swedish wooden cottages. This is an ideal opportunity to review our equipment and backpack contents.
Day 2: Training and start of the expedition
Day 2 10 km kayaking
Led by our experienced guides Wouter and local guide Lars, we begin our sea kayaking adventure at dawn. After extensive safety training, we start our exploration of the breathtaking Höga Kusten from the water.
Day 3 – 4: Kayaking along the High Coast

Day 4 20 km kayaking
We make hefty days with about 20 kilometers of sea kayaking per day. We spend the night on uninhabited islands and must be prepared for challenging weather conditions depending on the wind direction.
Day 5: Changeover day from kayaking to backpacking
Day 5 10 km kayaking & 10 km trekking
We conclude our sea kayaking adventure and swap our sea kayaks for backpacks on Day 5. The next stage of our trek takes us along the impressive coastline and varied terrain of Sweden’s Höga Kusten.
Day 6-7: Discovery of the Höga Coasts

Day 7 20 km trekking
These two days are dedicated to hiking through the unique nature of Höga Kusten. We pass the highest points and explore deep gorges. The chance of spotting wildlife such as moose and the serene silence of nature make these days special.
Day 8: End of the Trek
Day 8 15 km trekking
Our trek ends in Örnsköldsvik. Here we will stay in a local hotel, where we can rest and share our experiences. The evening ends with a communal dinner, where we look back on our adventurous journey.
Day 9: Return trip to the Netherlands
In the morning you will depart from the train station in Örnsköldsvik to Arlanda (Stockholm airport). For those who prefer overnight travel, there is an option to take the night train as early as the evening of arrival in Örnsköldsvik. Back in Holland, we look back on an unforgettable experience, full of new memories.

Preparation
We meet once before the trip. Live or digital. We pick the date by mutual agreement. Then we get to know each other. You’ll get an explanation of the materials and we’ll consider the map.
Equipment rental?
You can specify which equipment you would like to rent from us when you register. Tent, sleeping bag, mat, hiking poles or tent.
You can pick up these materials one week before the trip. This allows you to pack your backpack well before the trip.

During the Trip
Tours at Arctic Adventure are “Expedition Experiences. You experience what an expedition could be like. Sometimes spicy, sometimes easy. But always together.
We often sleep in tents. On summer trips, you can choose to bring your own tent. On winter treks, at least two people always sleep in a tent for safety reasons. Arctic Adventure regfelt the winter tents.
Moving, cooking and navigating we do together. The beauty of small groups is that there is always a real and good group feeling. Sometimes there are friendships and reunions years later.
We keep in touch with each other before (and often after) in a WhatsApp group.
Fitness
You need a good level of fitness for this hike. It’s nice if you can hike with a backpack on. Think about 20 kilometers a day with a backpack of over 20 pounds.
Sports Medical Examination
Are you over 60 and want to participate in this tour? If so, we highly recommend you get a sports medical examination. Read more about the possibilities here.
Safety
During the trip we find ourselves in uninhabited territory a lot. In case of an emergency, our position can always (but sometimes difficult) be reached by the rescue services.
The guide carries satellite communications equipment and both digital (GPS) and analog (Compass) navigation.
The guide has training in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and guide training with the Wilderness Guide Association (WGA).
There is a Basecamp in the Netherlands that can be contacted for those left behind.

Participants in our trips often sign up alone.
It happens that couples sign up.
The age of most participants is between 30 and 50 years.
There are certainly exceptions. The youngest participant was 23 and the oldest 66.
The male-female ratio is 50/50. The more challenging treks attract slightly more men. 60/40. But often the distribution is nicely balanced.

We will meet at the train station in Hänsösand, Sweden.
The train from Arlanda (Stockholm airport) arrives at 16:45. (Departure from Arlanda is at 12:42 p.m.)
Return
August 16
In the morning you can take the train again from the train station in Örnsköldsvik.
It is possible to take the night train to Arlanda (Stockholm airport) as early as August 16.
