Under Wouter’s guidance, we covered over 21 kilometers on both Tuesday and Wednesday. It was quite a challenge, especially given the weather conditions. In our previous blog post, we talked about the storm we faced. Fortunately, we weathered everything well and were able to sleep well despite the strong winds.

Weather changes

On Tuesday morning we woke up to a lull in the wind, a huge difference from the day before. We took down our tents and started walking early. During the day, the weather changed considerably. We experienced above-zero temperatures and soft snow. This made walking difficult, but we adapted by taking off parts of our gear so we could glide better. Despite these challenges, we were fortunately able to achieve our goals.

White-out conditions

In recent days we have also had to deal with changing light conditions. Where earlier we still had a nice view of the horizon and saw blue skies above us, we now found ourselves in whiteout-like conditions. This means it is as if we are in a white snowball, without any depth or landmark. It is a bizarre experience and it makes navigating very difficult. Fortunately, we worked well together as a team and corrected each other when necessary.

Outlook

We are predicted to experience white-out conditions for the next few days. This means continuing to walk without any view of our surroundings. It will be a challenge, but we are determined to reach our goal. We are not currently in the tent, but just melted snow to drink water. We will talk more about this later.

Next update

This was the expedition report for today.
